8,000 drivers caught on phone to be given help with simple concepts

I found this article in the Daily Mirage. Interesting reading:

"Following  a crackdown by UK Police on people using mobile phones while driving, almost 8,000 drivers have been revealed as being utterly, utterly stupid.

The drivers, a large proportion of which had gormless expressions and looked like the kind of people you wouldn't want to talk to anyway, persisted in using their phones while driving, oblivious to the fact that other people, like the police, for example, could totally, like, see them doing it.

Rough Justice?

Michael Thompson, 64, has been prosecuted by Police in Grimsby, North Lincolnshire, for “wilfully obstructing a police officer in the course of their duties” , when he flashed his lights at oncoming traffic to warn them of the speed trap they were approaching.

I can’t endorse speeding, it’s illegal and potentially dangerous in the wrong circumstances. Many would suggest that occasional speeding to at least some extent has become an occupational hazard if you spend much time behind the wheel. Nevertheless, a law is a law, whether it’s right or wrong. Where I sometimes have a problem is how these enforced. Were North Lincolnshire Police right to prosecute Mr Thompson?

Think Bike? Bikers; Think!!

The Think Bike safety campaign currently on our TV screens is a hard-hitting and effective one. It reminds me that, when I drive, a ton and a half of mixed metals surrounds me; an exoskeleton to protect me in the event of something bad. A biker has no such armour. He is a meat envelope astride a powerful beast, far more vulnerable when shit goes pear. And yet, irrespective of the millions of quid being poured into looking after bikers, every time I see one taking the piss it makes me far less inclined to care.

Good Cop Bad Cop

The police are easy targets for abuse and have been since the dawn of time. They prevent people getting away with stuff they shouldn’t be doing, they reduce profit levels for criminal gangs and they prevent kids from buying the life-threatening drugs they so badly want. But, ultimately, they’re there for our protection and, in essence, deserve our respect. So isn’t it about time they set about leading by example?

As a motorist, I see the police most frequently when I’m driving, and if I was to base my opinion of the force purely on the way they drive, then I would end up holding them in very low esteem indeed.

Another Highway Robbery.

I have a horrible feeling I may get a brown envelope through my letterbox, and an invitation to pay sixty pounds for a further three points to be enbossed into my driving license. Yes, I'm a naughty boy and a terrible, evil criminal.
