Yes, I should have done it ages ago. I've finally stumped up £8 for a decent domain name; RoadworkUK.com. Far better and more memorable, I'm sure you agree, than Roadworkuk.blogspot.com, though that will continue to work for as long as I'm hosted by Blogger. 

This is the first step in moving the site onto bigger and better things (probably), including (one day) a bespoke new website (hopefully) and eventual total internet domination. (Nah). Other than that, it's business as usual. Stay classy, and thanks for stopping by.

Roadwork Summer Holiday 2011:- Part One

 

It took quite a leap of faith to trust the 825 with our holiday transportation needs. There was myself and my girlfriend, a substantial tent, a weeks worth of clothing, cooking apparatus and all the other tat that a week of camping usually entails. The boot swallowed most of it, the remainder spilling out onto the rear bench seat, and when loaded the rear end squatted down sending the headlamps beaming into the sky, illuminating satellites and space debris.

We had a choice of two other cars to take, both proven to be reliable, economical and practical. Either the Peugeot or the Audi would have been a sensible choice. But, then, that wouldn’t have been a challenge, would it? Here was a chance for the Rover to prove that it could still cut it where it counts:-

I sought to prove that a 1997 Rover 825 Si is good at being a car.

6000 views is nothing in the great scheme of things, Hooniverse can probably fart more page views than that every single day. But the the fact that people have clicked onto my dusty little blog and found something of interest on six thousand seperate occasions means the world to me. Thanks for that.

It's time for me to plan for the future. This is my sixtieth post on Roadwork, I try to do at least a couple of posts every week, but it all takes time and, believe it or not, effort. One things sure; I'm not about to quit any time soon, I'll continue posting my claptrap until it becomes illegal to do so. What I would ask of you, though, is this: If you visit this site regularly, or if there's an article you particularly enjoy, please tell people about it. I love putting this stuff together, and the more people that read it the more effort I'm driven to put into it. If, however, you think it sucks, please get in touch and tell me why.

Meanwhile I can promise you, if you stick around, er.... more of the same old stuff, really. 

Roadwork Vacation:- Trans Europe Express Part One.

The following has already been hosted at Hooniverse where I'm eternally grateful to Tim Odell for all his support. I thought it about time I gave it a permanent home here, as it concerns one of the greatest weeks of my driving career.

I may have been drunk when we came up with the idea. I admit it.

It was Hogmannay, 2007. Scottish New Year. I was in Edinburgh, having been invited by Izzy and Jade, two long term friends and lovers of fine cheeses. Izzy was in bed, leaving Jade and I in the living room of their waterfront apartment, amusing ourselves with cheese and wine. I don’t recall how it happened, but by sunrise we had both agreed to bugger off around Europe in a car. The WHOLE of Europe.

All Systems Go

This is my first, tentative step into the world of blogging. Given time it will probably develop to look flashier, especially if I ever get my head around CSS and HTML code. Fun stuff.
