Once around the block #2:- The First Zafira

Comparing a Ferrari and a Lamborghini is like choosing between imaginary trips to Mauritius or The Seychelles. The copy makes wonderful reading but is utterly irrelevant to most of society. Looking at my hit-counter, though, unless you’re a die-hard and read everything I post (and if so I richly appreciate your efforts, however misguided) people tend to wander over here for GT-Rs and AMGs but collectively shrug over A-Classes and Mondeos.

More fool them, I say, because jumping behind the wheel of “ordinary” cars is far more interesting, in a different way. You find nuances between models among the ranks of everday cars which are far more divisive than between Porsches and Maseratis. And some ordinary cars are more ordinary than others. The Vauxhall Zafira isn’t one of them.

Driven #43:- Renault Espace 2.2dCI Dynamique ('06)

One day soon I’m going to have to become a responsible adult. Settling down with a house will become the priority, choosing furniture and tiles will become my de rigeur weekend activity. I’ll have to put my plans for a Mercedes diesel powered Reliant Scimitar, or that night-club-owner-in-1986 spec C4 Corvette Convertible (red with white leather…) , even more on hold than they already are.

And then one day, depending on the potency of my loins and whether my other half is still willing to come anywhere near me without revulsion, I might end up rearing an offspring. It'll hopefully be a small scale operation, we certainly won’t be on a quest to repopulate Essex. But fertility is a funny thing, if sprogs keep popping out I might find myself having to make a terrible, terminal life decision.

I may end up needing a minivan.

Driven #20:- '03 Citroën C8

Yes, I know, yet another car on Roadwork that was never especially good when it was new and is even less especially good now it's ancient. And yes, I always end up crowing about the fact that it's interesting making up for all its numerous shortcomings.

And this one isn't even all that old. It's an '03 Citroën C8 seven seater, in Private Hire blue with plastic wheeltrims. But somehow it's managed to put over 260,000 miles under its wheels. And I find that pretty impressive.
